Gilles Peterson is a DJ who has consistently promoted quality groove-led music over the last 20-plus years. Along with Eddie Pillar, Peterson was the founder of the hugely respected Acid Jazz label and responsible for launching the careers of Jamiroquai and the Brand New Heavies, among others. He currently runs the Brownswood label, which promotes contemporary jazz, funk, African music and other oddities, including one of the biggest successes in Afro-European dance music of recent times, the Owiny Sigoma Band. As a DJ, Peterson is renowned for playing quality music from around the world on his shows on BBC R1 and now 6 Music. Wallowing in jazz, soul, hip hop, disco, latin and afrobeat, he’s a true collector’s DJ, a musical education.
