It can scare-cly have escaped your attention that Halloween is looming. Rather than marking the occasion with the usual cheesiness, why not do something that could actually be frightening? On the Saturday before the big day, there will be a ghost hunt in that creepily named town of Hyde. It takes places under the local market hall, which may not seem like a particularly scary location, until you read about its history. In the 19th century, what stood on the site was The Norfolk Arms Hotel, which was the scene of a tragic accident. During a meeting of striking mill workers, the hotel floor gave in and 200 people fell, 29 to their deaths. Your guides will be Omen Paranormal Events, a company experienced in running such night-time spookiness. You won’t just be sitting in the dark; they have ‘ghost hunting equipment’ to use.
