Grimm Up North presents the UK premiere of James Franco’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s extreme, perverse and horrifying Child of God. Deemed unadaptable by many, Franco sets out to prove that he’s more than just an actor/scholar/artist/handsome bastard with his masterful and powerful directorial slant on McCarthy’s disturbing tale. Child of God centres around Lester Ballard (Scott Haze, pictured) a dispossessed, violent necrophiliac killer whose life is a disastrous attempt to exist outside the social order as he falls deeper into crime and degradation. A serious and unflinching piece of work from a daring young film-maker who is hardly taking the easy route into direction, this is a must-see at a cheaper price than you’d find in most multiplexes – especially for a premiere.
