R&B singer Jamila Woods comes to Band on the Wall this November, celebrating the release of her acclaimed 2019 record, LEGACY! LEGACY!. On her 2016 debut HEAVN, Woods carved a vital, poignant record of tracks addressing contemporary political issues such as police brutality in Chicago, where she is from, with masterful arrangements and personal narratives. On LEGACY! LEGACY!, she further expands the scope, using each track as an exploration of a significant artist of colour — from Miles Davis to Frida Kahlo to Jean-Michel Basquiat. Lyrically full of introspection, anger, wit — and tied together with expansive instrumentation and lush orchestration — the record cements Woods as a leading figures of contemporary R&B. Support comes from Mali Hayes, whose Jazz and Neo-Soul influenced tracks and impressive vocals have garnered coverage across national press and radio.
