The cultural polymath Julian Cope has announced a 2017 tour to mark his latest EP of dirnking songs, calling at Manchester’s Gorilla. Boasting a varied CV across antiquarian and musical artistic endeavours, Cope is now on the cusp of his 40th year in the industry, since teaming with Bunnyman Ian McCulloch for a short-lived punk explosion, The Crucial Three. More famously, he’s synonymous with Liverpool’s post-punk golden era, fronting The Teardrop Explodes through their LSD-fueled psychedelia before announcing his solo career with World Shut Your Mouth and Fried, both released in 1984. These days, he’s writing novels about road trips and fictional bands, while adding to his recorded music repertoire on his Head Heritage label.
