The dramatic story of Britain’s first black judge comes to Waterside Arts in October. Award-winning actor and baritone Tayo Aluko will tell the story of Lagos-born Tunji Sowande who gave up a music career for the Bar. Just An Ordinary Lawyer takes in the history of black liberation through story and song. There’s also more than a dash of cricket: Sowande belonged to Marylebone Cricket Club and was a dedicated Crystal Palace fan, and his story sees the worlds of politics and sport clash. Tayo Aluko, who also wrote the play, previously won accolades for his one-man show Call Mr. Robeson which toured the globe for a decade.
