LA Priest at Soup Kitchen

After the frenzy of being leader of indie-electro band Late of the Pier, it’s no surprise that Sam Dust chose to find respite in the rolling green hills of Wales’ Montgomeryshire to make a start on his new record. However, don’t expect the scenery to mirror the music: LA Priest’s (Sam Dust’s new moniker) debut album Inji (out now on Domino) isn’t in fact a reflective folk album: they are a set of songs that have the same infectious pull as Late of the Pier’s, but with a few years’ of maturity. Deemed “restless funk and frisky psychedelia”, LA Priest’s showcase of new material at this year’s headlining slot of Sounds from the Other City was evidence enough that Sam Dust’s return is a powerful one. Expect compelling reasons to dance.
