Gilles Peterson-championed jazz label Gondwana Records has programmed a cuttin eddge line-up at Band on the Wall to highlight the next wave of Manchester’s jazz scene. With intense sax lines to rival Cinematic Orchestra or Philip Glass and a keys and percussive drive akin to former label mates GoGo Penguin, Mammal Hands’ headlining slot is the next step on their musical journey to wider audiences. Caoilfhionn Rose, whose debut album is in the Gondwana pipeline, opens up with dulcet acoustic lilts, while label boss Matthew Halsall will fill the gaps on the decks.
