Returning for its sixth year is that celebration of all things literary for little ‘uns, the Manchester Children’s Book Festival. Taking place in MMU’s All Saints campus late in June, the event is a full day of readings, performances, and music. There will be special appearances throughout the day from kids’ favourite characters, including the ubiquitous Peppa Pig. The award-winning children’s author and creator of the CBeebies series ‘Q-Pootle 5’, Nick Butterworth, will be presenting an interactive show about the magic of storytelling. Also appearing will be the festival’s patron, Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine; and the bestselling writer Cathy Cassidy. In addition, there will be arts, crafts, and workshops, alongside a marketplace of stalls to browse. To keep your little mites sustained, the Festival has joined forces with street food events company GRUB, to host a family food fair. General entry is free, but some events and workshops require booking and have a fee. Several shows are already close to selling out, so act fast.
