Though it is traditionally the solstice that is the peak of summer, in Manchester we’re well aware that the warmer months climax with the Pride Weekender & Parade. 2013 promises to be just as exciting as every make-up covered, glamour filled event that has gone before, as the the first couple of details about the event begin to leak out. In terms of music, Kate Nash, Misha B, Patrick Wolf, Lucy Spraggan, The Feeling and Rylan are already confirmed to perform, whereas the only surprise about the new Dance Arena is the fact that nobody managed to make it happen before. Of course, there is also the usual mixture of market stalls, the lifestyle Expo and, indeed, the parade itself to look forward to, culminating in the moving candlelit vigil in Sackville Gardens at the end of the weekend.

Fri 23 Aug – Mon 26 Aug (Parade Sat 24 Aug), Various locations around gay village, £16 earlybird weekend tickets (£7.50 children), Free entry to Parade, https://www.quaytickets.com/
