Monophonics hail from San Francisco’s Bay Area and play a gorgeous blend of funk, psych pop and soul influenced by the likes of Sly and The Family Stone and Funkadelic. No one less than the founder of Stax Records, Al Bell, called them one of the best live soul bands he’s ever seen and their last album, Sound Of Sinning, was acclaimed by the likes of BBC 6Music. Support for this date comes from established London Hammond and horn funksters Crowd Company. This Manchester date is the first on Monophonics’ European tour, so expect a dynamite soul explosion as they’ll be itching to spread the soul! I’ll also be hosting an after party at the venue spanning all sorts of funk and soul business: that’s free entry if you’ve got a gig ticket or £5 without.
