Okkervil River are set to play Manchester’s Gorilla as part of a tour in celebration of Away, their first album since 2013’s The Silver Gymnasium. The band has be reshaped by frontman Will Sheff, while there are recorded cameos from Marissa Nadler, Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg and classical group yMusic. Channelled through Sheff’s chirpily melancholic indie-folk tones, Away looks at loss and change through time, embedding heartbreaking lyrical dexterity in Arcade Fire-esque vocal and orchestral flourishes. They’ll be supported by Michael Nau, the Page France and Cotton Jones frontman whose debut solo effort earlier this year scored a healthy 7.3 via Pitchfork.
