Join Penguin Pride as they turn up the volume on queer voices during an evening of awe-inspiring LGBTQ+ readings and spoken word performances coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Taking place at Manchester city centre’s leading arts, cinema and theatre space HOME on Wed 21 Aug, this diverse event will feature a selection of guests, each of whom are leaders in their field when it comes to breaking new ground in the arena of inclusion. The event will see writers, poets and activists come together to reflect on the impact of the riots – a watershed moment in the LGBTQ+ community’s history – via a selection of performances and spoken word readings. These performances will also aim to highlight how far we’ve come since the fateful events of summer 1969 and look ahead to what’s left to achieve by future generations. Confirmed guests include multi-award winning poet and playwright Toby Campion, Yorkshire poet Andrew McMillan, arts journalist Paul Flynn, novelist Emma Morgan, author Kirsty Logan, LGBTQ+ writer and author roo and Manchester based storyteller Ella Eneme Otomewo. This event forms part of HOME’s wider Manchester Pride 2019 celebrations, with tickets on sale now for just £10.
