Vermont folk singer Sam Amidon brings his jazz-inflected reinterpretations to The Met later this month to celebrate the release of his new album, Bright Sunny South. Produced by long-term collaborator Thomas Bartlett (Iron & Wine, The National, Sharon Van Etten), Amidon will be showcasing new songs from the album, which he describes as ‘a lonesome record’, as well as a selection from his six previous records. Known for combining traditional melodies and reworkings of songs by the likes of R Kelly and, on this new one, Mariah Carey, Amidon shows great skill in crafting old songs in new ways, which he works into his live performances just as impressively. Listen to his sun-warmed cover of Tim McGraw’s My Old Friend here.
