The Leeds septet cross the Pennines once more, this time with their new album, Colour Theory, lighting the path. Having been introduced to the bass music fans of Manchester by the Hit & Run promoters around the turn of the decade, the new LP arrives with Submotion Orchestra’s onstage powers a thinly veiled secret. Their energy, dexterity and personality of performance has seen this city’s venues at capacity in the past, with Gorilla the latest to house all the best bits of dub, jazz, electronica and soul, courtesy of Ruby Wood’s attention-grabbing vocals and a backing band featuring Taz Modi, a sometime collaborator with Manchester’s Matthew Halsall, on keys.
