Seminal and influential are two words massively overused – especially by certain listings writers – but rarely can they have been more aptly used than in a description of Television. Perhaps the greatest creative powerhouse to ever come out of the New York scene, they have been shaping guitar (and every other type of) music since 1973, being on again, off again throughout that period. Having hung around in similar circles to The Ramones, Patti Smith and Blondie, they may never have reached the commercial heights of their peers (their highest charting album reached #7) – but that doesn’t really matter. Argue among yourselves over whether Marque Moon or Adventure is your favourite album (though we’d be hard pushed to let you have their eponymous 1992 effort), but don’t bicker for too long – they won’t be coming back any time soon, and tickets won’t be hanging about for very long either.
