Tickets are on sale now for Telling Tales, a festival showcasing film and audio documentaries. It takes place at 70 Oxford Street – the building that was formerly the Cornerhouse. The festival is being run by MMU’s Arts and Humanities department, and the organisers hope to make it an annual event. Featuring work from both professionals and emerging talent, the documentaries investigate many contemporary issues from Britain and around the world. Following the Friday evening launch, the festival proper takes place on Saturday, taking over the venue’s two cinemas and an audio/visual room. There will be over 30 documentaries presented on many different topics, from immigration to Islamophobia and British wrestling. On the Sunday afternoon, the show moves to The Wonder Inn in Shudehill for screenings and an award ceremony.
