Outdoorsy types look in: The Adventure Activists Tour is coming to Manchester. The event is aimed at raising environmental awareness, and takes place at Manchester Climbing Centre, a converted church in West Gorton. The special guest speaker is Sarah Outen MBE, an adventurer and author who spent four and a half years traversing the world using human power alone. During her many months at sea, she witnessed the impacts of plastic pollution. Also appearing is Olympic rower Rok Rozman, the leader of The Balkan Rivers Tour – a group of kayakers who campaign to keep the rivers of Europe flowing freely. The evening concludes with a screening of the documentary film Fishpeople. This tells the stories of people who have dedicated their lives to the sea, from surfers and spear fishers to a long-distance swimmer, and a group of at-risk kids. The tour is presented by Kendal Mountain Festival and the clothing brand Patagonia. All profits will go to an environmental NGO.
