Manchester legends The Fall return to their home ground this September. Formed nearly 40 years ago, and driven by their need to experiment and push the boundaries, their punk sound has evolved but their abrasive guitar-driven music and idiosyncratic style remains a constant. Famous for their ever-changing line-up, the one permanent member remains vocalist Mark E Smith (pictured), whose acerbic cryptic lyrics and uniquely expressive voice earn this band their cult status. Championed by John Peel, who described them as ‘always different … always the same’, The Fall’s back catalogue consists of 30 studio albums, 24 BBC sessions, and an endless number of compilations and live albums. They return to headline the Salford Music Festival.
