Scottish quintet Trembling Bells are to head south of the border to Deaf Institute as part of an extensive UK summer tour. In their eight years as a band since sprouting from the Glasgow folk scene, praise has arrived from all quarters, with Incredible String Band’s manager Joe Boyd among the encouraging voices. They forged even stronger ties between the 1960s folk music revival and the modern day when the Incredible String Band founder and singer, Mike Heron, fronted their 2011 tour, and the common ground is clear in their shared pastoral storytelling. This show sees the band in their initial incarnation, as “obsessive, pedantic, maladjusted, unemployable nerds,” in the words of drummer Alex Neilson.
