Known for his tours with prolific American funk group Vulfpeck and its associated band The Fearless Flyers, Cory Wong is known for his virtuoso funk-soul guitar work that has put him at the forefront of the funk and R&B revival. Hailing from Minnesota, Wong is also a prolific composer and producer, with his name on the credits of countless collaborations with artists from across the musical spectrum — including Bootsy Collins, Gene Simmons, and Ben Rector. Wong’s most recent solo effect is Elevator Music for an Elevated Mood, his fourth under his own name, and it’s an exciting journey through jazz and funk, with elaborate arrangements, blaring saxophones, catchy hooks, and witty lyrics. Expect high-calibre jams at his show at the O2 Ritz this Friday, with support from local group porij. Plus, for all you aspiring guitarists, Wong is running a masterclass at the Ritz before the show; there is a handy ticket bundle including both the masterclass and the show. You better hurry on tickets for the masterclass, though, as there are only 50 places to learn funk and soul guitar directly from the maestro himself.
