Waterside Arts Centre in Sale has just announced the programme for Refract:17, its 10-day summer season of music, comedy and theatre. Taking place in July, the event kicks off with r’n’b legends King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys. In a similar vein, appearing later will be Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners, who fuse New Orleans jazz with 1990s club classics. The comic poet John Hegley (pictured) will be appearing, as will Jan Ravens – star of the BBC’s Dead Ringers – who will be previewing her Edinburgh Fringe Show. Theatre Tours International will present its take on Dylan Thomas’s magnum opus Under Milk Wood. In a feat of virtuosity and memory, the company will bring to life all 69 residents of Thomas’s fictional town of Llareggub, accompanied by an original soundscape. You won’t be criticised for using your mobile during WiFi Wars, as that’s the main point of the event: For this comedy gameshow, the entire audience plays along via smartphone, to win prizes. The full programme can be found on the website below.
