Every couple of years, seeping through the creaking mechanisms of the music industry, an album will pass under the radar of those in power and become a hulking great big sleeper hit. Kate Crutchfield (pictured) is in the middle of experiencing what both Arcade Fire and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! have felt before her: the sense that every day, every hour, every minute, someone new is falling in love with an album she crafted with her own hands. Having recently toured with Tegan and Sara on their sold-out European jaunt, Crutchfield – working under the Waxahatchee moniker – is now heading over to these shores on her own. She should be confident by the time October comes around that enough people will have been won over by her glorious, passionate sophomoric effort Cerulean Salt – now re-released for the UK by Wichita – that this show could easily sell out a few times over. If you’ve not fallen for her yet, fall now – Coast to Coast is one of the most arresting tracks you’ll hear all year – listen to it below. Support comes from the other Crutchfield twin Allison’s band, Swearin’.
