Enrolment is now open for a one-off School of Wizardry coming in February to the appropriately gothic venue of the Monastery in Gorton. If you’re planning on making a ‘Monastery of Magic’ joke, don’t bother: the organisers have beaten you to it. Students of almost any age are welcome to this full day of lessons in wand-duelling, potion-making, and herbology. The day will end with a ceremony in the Great Nave, where students will take home their own personal hand-lathed wooden wand, and be presented with a graduation certificate by an actor from one of the Harry Potter films. The event is organised by the same team that ran DraigCon, the recent Potter convention at Victoria Warehouse. However, it should be noted that this is a strictly ‘by fans, for fans’ event, and isn’t endorsed by Warner Bros., J.K. Rowling, Robert Galbraith, or Rupert Grint.

Sat 23 Feb, The Monastery, 89 Gorton Lane, Gorton, Manchester, M12 5WF, 9.30am – 6pm, £99, www.wizardry-school.co.uk
