The Manchester Literature Festival returns in October, and as this is the event’s tenth anniversary, it’s an even bigger affair than usual. The full programme has just been announced – with an impressive roster of established and emerging talents set to appear. Stand-out events include Simon Armitage reading from his new book Walking Away at Central Library (Thu 22 Oct, 6.30pm) . This travelogue tells of his time poetry-busking on the south coast of England. Singer-songwriter Kathryn Williams, meanwhile, will be performing her latest album in full at the intimate venue of Hallé St Peter’s (Sat 17 Oct, 8pm). Hypoxia is a meditative record inspired by the works of Sylvia Plath. And comedy writer Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, The Thick of It) and writer/comedian Tim Key will be presenting an evening of fiction and poetry at the Burgess Foundation (Sat 17 Oct, 7.30pm). At Gorilla Bar, Tracey Thorn will be talking to Dave Haslam about her new book Naked at the Albert Hall, which is an inside look at the art of singing (Tue 20 Oct, 7.30pm). Tickets are already on sale to MLF Get Closer members, and go on general sale on Monday 17 August.
