The Abstract Orchestra make a welcome return to Band On The Wall this month, paying tribute to seminal hip hop producer MF Doom. Expect a night of excellent musicianship and deep grooves from this 18-piece live band, boasting saxophone, trombones, drums, keys, and guitars, with live hip-hop rhythm section with guest singers. Arranged by Haggis Horns’ saxophonist Rob Mitchell, the collective’s musicians have performed with some huge names in the world of music, including Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Martha Reeves and Jamiroquai. MF Doom has now enjoyed three decades of success, collaborating with the likes of Madlib, Danger Mouse, Ghostface Killah, Bishop Nehru, amongst many others. Expect plenty of MF Doom cuts, alongside other classics of the genre, as the orchestra have found fans for skilled reinterpretations of hip-hop legends that include J Dilla and Madvillain, diversifying ways in which hip-hop can be enjoyed. Groovement’s local hip hop spinner Agent J will be on the decks in support.
