The folks behind Manchester Literature Festival are presenting an evening with the acclaimed writer of poetry and prose Simon Armitage in March at The Dancehouse Theatre on Oxford Road. A popular success and critical darling, Armitage has written 11 collections of poetry, including an adaptation of the Medieval epic Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. His other works include novels, biographical works, and two quirky travelogues which recounted his time ‘poetry busking’ his way around rural England. This event marks the launch of a yet another book: a new volume of poetry entitled The Unaccompanied. Set against a backdrop of social division and economic recession, the poems document a world where Odysseus walks the aisles of cut-price supermarkets, and where the star of Bethlehem rises over Yorkshire. Copies of the book will be on sale on the night, and some ticket options include a discounted copy.
