Daptone Records are perhaps best known for their own first lady of soul, Sharon Jones, who sadly passed away last November. With her band the Dap-Kings, Sharon poured her heart out to Manchester in The Roadhouse and The Mint Lounge (for Friends and Family, who just closed the MIF in style), The Ritz and The Albert Hall to name just four key gigs. Daptone Records co-founder Neal Sugarman was with her every step of the way, and moseys back into the limelight with his band Sugarman 3 this Sunday. This is their first UK headline tour in over a decade. We’re also being treated to a very special appearance from Emil Carter, who’s flying in from Texas. His band Mickey and the Soul Generation existed between 1969 and 1977, and DJ Shadow released a compilation of their entire catalogue in 2004. This is Emil’s first ever UK show! DJ support comes from my good self.
