Experience Hamlet like never before as acclaimed performance artist and lip-synch maestro, Dickie Beau, remixes the Dane at Manchester’s Contact theatre. For Re-Member Me, the artist channels iconic recordings of performances of Hamlet into a theatrical mixtape that invokes a ghostly prince that never existed. His haunting, sometime humorous, lip-synch performance features the voices of Peter O’Toole, Sir Richard Eyre and, comically mourning his own Hamlet track record, Sir Ian McKellan. There’s even the sound of a stagehand chatting to Daniel Day-Lewis amid a thespian crisis. Beau, who studied drama in Manchester, has scooped numerous awards including an Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award and a London Cabaret Award for Best Alternative Performer. This new playback performance came about when he realised, like many aspiring actors, he would never get to play the Dane. He has previously explored the lives and careers of Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland through the playback medium – and fans and newcomers alike can expect to be wowed.
