Good news for fans of pogo-ing: American indie-rockers Ex Hex are swinging by Soup Kitchen in February. The band’s music is an up-tempo mix of punk and garage pop, with influences that range from The Ramones to The Go-Go’s, via The Jam. Their debut album Rips made many critics’ ‘Best of 2014’ lists, and the Guardian declared it the air guitar album of the year. You may know of bandleader Mary Timony, because in her 20-plus year career she has become something of an indie-rock institution. She was part of the cult bands Autoclave, Helium and more recently Wild Flag, a super-group with Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney. So, it should go without saying that those planning to see Sleater-Kinney in March should check this all-female trio, too.
