One of the jewels in Islington Mill’s independent music crown, Fat Out Fest, returns for a long weekend of sonic mayhem this spring, expanding this year to include stages curated by collaborators including Le Guess Who? and Supersonic festivals, and music publications such as The Quietus and Wire. Among the biggest names plugging into the experimental music showcase’s amp stacks is Ninja Tune’s The Bug, who performs his acclaimed collaboration with Dylan Carlson of Earth. As well as touring artists from across the world including More Mother, Islam Chipsy and Trans Am, homegrown bands on the bill include Irma Vep, The Yossarians and Lake of Snakes. Friday’s bill includes a Baba Yaga’s Hut curated selection, with Basilica Hudson among others taking over on Saturday and Lovers and Lollypops and Supersonic on Sunday. Stages expand this year from Islington Mill to take in the surrounding warehouses and performance spaces as well as markets, street food, craft beer and more at the country’s leading celebration of sludge, drone, post-rock and more.
