TV On The Radio went on hiatus after their bassist Gerrard Smith was sadly lost to lung cancer back in 2011 – but now, three years since their last studio release, they return with an early Christmas present for fans in the form of fifth album, Seeds. Released earlier in the month, this record lacks the experimental tendencies they’ve previously shown a lean towards, but is a collection of upbeat, catchy hooks and jangly guitars. Set to make the listener groove, this is our shimmering vibe-maker until the first signs that winter has banished us, or at least, until their five-date UK tour, with Manchester’s Albert Hall squeezing in nicely in the middle. The Brooklyn band, whose sound can’t be pigeonholed but covers a wide spectrum of soul, jazz, psychedelia, trip-hop, 1990s indie rock to name a few, have four critically acclaimed albums under their belt – and Seeds is no doubt heading in that direction too.
