Ghostwatch is back from the dead thanks to a special screening at Gorilla. On the 25th anniversary of this seminal TV event, there’s a screening the infamous 1992 BBC Halloween special presented by Michael Parkinson hosted by Pilot Light TV Festival. The spoof show, which starred Craig Charles, Sarah Greene and a spoof spirit called Pipes, resulted in 30,000 calls from frightened viewers. Following claims of post traumatic stress disorder and reassurances on children’s TV that the mockumentary was not real, the show was banned from TV schedules. The show’s silver anniversary will be marked with events in Manchester and London. This special spooky screening at Manchester’s Gorilla will kick off with a Q&A from screenwriter Stephen Volk, director Lesley Manning and director of Ghostwatch: Behind the Curtains, Rich Lawden. Expect a lively discussion about one of the most notorious fake news events in BBC history.
