October welcomes four days of craft and design at Upper Campfield Market. Returning for its eleventh year is the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, showcasing over 150 of the most talented designers and makers in the UK. The weekend, opened by designer Thomas Heatherwick, is one of the largest craft events in the country and a highlight of the cultural calendar in the North. Visitors will have the chance to meet craftspeople who specialise in a variety of mediums including but not limited to glass, jewellery, ceramics, interior and fashion textiles, metalwork, furniture, and print-making. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the processes and ideas behind your favourite work. This year will also feature artist talks and demonstrations from some of the designer-makers. A must see is the ‘Great Northern Graduates’ showcase, which features the hottest new graduates from creative courses across the UK. Supported by Arts Council this promises to be an excellent few days. Pop along and find the piece that your living room is crying out for.
