Zombie runs have boomed over the past few years, with more and more of us opting to spend our weekends hurtling round the region’s varied woodlands and desolate industrial parks hotly pursued by students in make-up. Ridiculous though it may seem, it’s hard to deny that adrenaline pulsing through your veins as a crimson-mouthed deadite bears down on you, murder in its blank eyes, is kind of fun. The newest purveyor of these heart-stopping escapades is ‘Scream Park’, who will be setting up shop this Autumn at Trafford’s Events City. The venue, more used to to hosting trade shows than bloodthirsty hordes, will be transformed into an apocalyptic ‘safe haven’, offering hot food and fairground rides as a distraction from the unfolding zombie apocalypse. Although I’m sure fans of zombie fiction will be fully aware of just how ‘safe’ any ‘haven’ can be. Aptly, this event takes place around Halloween – and it’s organisers no doubt expect that this most haunted of holidays will provide the perfect backdrop of fear, helping you forget – if only for a moment – that its just a guy in costume.

Various dates from Thu 16 Oct – Sun 2 Nov, Event City, Phoenix Way, Urmston, M41 7TB, 7pm, £20, Over 15s only, www.screamparkuk.com
