Fancy a modern theatrical take on a classic novel? The Royal Exchange is hosting an irreverent production of Jane Austen’s Persuasion that keeps the bonnets firmly locked away. The 19th century book is transposed to the present day with a soundtrack that includes Nicki Minaj and Frank Ocean. Crossing Lines star Lara Rossi plays Anne Elliot, wracked by the appearance of a former suitor. This year marks 200 years since Jane Austen’s death, with Persuasion being published posthumously alongside Northanger Abbey. This thoroughly modern twist on Persuasion takes place on a morphing lightbox – and even includes a foam party. In addition to evening performances, this run includes twice-weekly matinees.
