That Jason Isbell comes to the Albert Hall fresh from six sold-out nights at the iconic Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, is testimony to his double Grammy-winning status in American roots music. Two solo albums, 2013 breakthrough Southeastern and its 2015 follow-up Something More Than Free, eclipsed his earlier contribution to the Drive By Truckers, catapulting this 38-year-old Alabaman to singer-songwriter stardom. His current album, The Nashville Sound, recorded with touring band the 400 Unit, is a looser, more raucous affair, still tackling his well-documented demons and redemption through song but also in the lyrics of ‘White Man’s World’ addressing the troubling issues of Trump’s America.
