A glitzy adaptation of Noël Coward’s classic romance Brief Encounter has a five-day run at Salford’s Lowry theatre in February 2018. Set on the eve of World War II, the story focuses on Laura, a married woman with a mundane home life. A chance meeting with a stranger in a train station turns her life on its head. The two fall in love, and this brings about unexpected consequences for both of them. Brief Encounter was originally a film, directed by David Lean in 1945. Under the direction of Kneehigh’s Emma Rice, this stage version takes a lot of inspiration from the movie, as it switches between live action and filmed elements. This production was originally staged by Birmingham Repertory Theatre has played in London, Broadway and around the world. Watch this space for cast details.
