This month sees a host of talent descend on Band On The Wall for a night of world-class musicianship celebrating new, contemporary jazz. Spearheaded by composer and trumpet player Laura Jurd, a 14-piece ensemble will be presenting new project ‘Stepping Back, Jumping In’; a celebration of new sounds spanning jazz, neo-classical and electronica. Joining Laura on stage, guests include her 2017 Mercury prize-nominated outfit Dinosaur, along with string specialists the Ligeti Quartet. They’ll also be joined by Norwegian tuba and electronics duo Heida Karine Jóhannesdóttir and Anja Lauvdal, alongside British/Iranian composer and sound artist Soosan Lolavar. Completing the bill, jazz guitarist Rob Luft, trombonist Raphael Clarkson and Jazz Herstory-founder Liz Exell join forces to help perform selections of newly commissioned works by various members of the ensemble. Billed as a “bold and ambitious meeting of creative minds”, the evening aims to showcase some of Europe’s brightest talent within jazz composition and performance.
