Manchester International Festival have unveiled the first line-up of artists set to appear in the city when the festival returns in July 2019. Established in 2007, the bi-annual celebration showcases a variety of events including live music, stage theatre, visual art and public events, with acts coming from across the globe to perform in Manchester. Getting proceedings underway in 2019, artist and activist Yoko Ono invites us to gather together at Cathedral Gardens where Bells For Peace will host thousands of diverse voices and a people’s orchestra of bells ringing out for peace. Actor Idris Elba will be teaming up with the new artistic director of London’s Young Vic theatre Kwame Kwei-Armah for Tree, a brand-new theatre piece exploring the soul and spirit of contemporary South Africa. Producer and MC Skepta has also been announced to appear, holding intimate and immersive experiences with handpicked performers and DJs in a secret location for ‘Dystopia987’. All this, along with a host of theatre productions, art shows, discussions and live art installations still to be announced, will give you plenty to get stuck into. A full programme for MIF19 will be announced in March 2019 – and tickets for a number of shows including Tree, can be booked online via the link below now..
