Athletic types can now sign up for the Bupa Electric Run, a 5k road race which will take place in September. Although it’s at night, the event has a day-glo theme, and runners are encouraged to join in by dressing in neon colours and using glow sticks. Beginning at the Etihad Stadium, there will be a dance party before the off, where runners can warm up to the strains of a DJ. The event itself is not the most competitive of affairs: participants can run, dance, or walk their way through the course, either on their own or in a group. The route goes through the nearby streets which will be decked out with light installations. At the finish line, there will be another party, so if you still have the energy you can celebrate with the thousands of other runners, who will be glowing from the neon lights… and also the sweat.
PLEASE NOTE: This event has been cancelled.
Sat 26 Sep, Etihad Campus, Clayton, 6.30–11.30pm, from £31, electricrun.co.uk
