The Fall frontman, Mark E. Smith performs at the Imperial War Museum North next week, minus the band, to pay tribute to maverick British artist Wyndham Lewis (1882 – 1957), whose work is the subject of a current temporary exhibition (read our preview). Smith will be giving his personal response to the work of the controversial painter and writer, founder of the Vorticism art movement and BLAST Magazine. This exclusive performance, entitled ‘Responding to a Rebel’, will see Smith lead a performance of speeches, poems, and ramblings set to live percussion and a backdrop of large-scale projections from the IWM’s archive. The evening is part of ‘Wyndham Lewis: Life, Art, War’, an ongoing exhibition and season of events.
