Book tickets: Mercury nominated jazz pianist Zoe Rahman & Inner City Ensemble at Band on the Wall

Jazz pianist Zoe Rahman is to take the reins of the Inner City Ensemble for the latest Jazz Director Series, organised by Brighter Sound and Band on the Wall. The ensemble has been handpicked from prodigious musicians who are aiming to take their craft a stage further and the full line up has just been announced (see below). Rahman’s reputation spans the jazz and classical spheres, lending her extensive musicology through which she can fuse the freshly formed Inner City’s creative skills over the course of four days before embarking on a short tour of the North. Starting in Morecambe, Rahman’s ensemble will then play in Bradford and Warrington before returning to Band on the Wall for the grand finale. Each show is a chance to catch Rahman’s enviable talent on the ivories, which has been acknowledged by a UK Parliamentary Jazz Award and Mercury Music Prize nomination, with the Inner City Ensemble for the first time.
The ensemble includes piano, double bass, drums, flute, clarinet, trumpet, alto and tenor saxophone, trombone, and tuba. The line-up comprises of some of the most promising and exciting emerging musicians working today, and includes performers from Tomorrow’s Warriors and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, as well as alumni of the Royal Brussels Conservatoire, Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Cambridge University and Leeds College of Music.
