The refugee situation dominated headlines and much of politics throughout 2016 and seems set to continue into the New Year and beyond. Mohsin Hamid’s new novel Exit West is a love story and an engaging response to the burgeoning refugee crisis. Hamid comes to Manchester for an in conversation with Manchester Literature Festival at Waterstones, where the Man Booker nominee will be discussing and reading from his new book. After rising to prominence with The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which saw him appear on the New York Times Bestseller list as well as numerous international shortlists, Hamid has become an important voice on the relationship between the West, Fundamentalism and the refugee crisis. In a world where these issues can become just another political tool or a headline, Hamid brings a human side to a very human concern. The in-conversation with John McAuliffe is a chance to not only see one of contemporary literature’s brightest and most talented stars, it’s also a chance to engage with important world issues with one of its most engaging voices.
