Portlandian space-rock outfit Moon Duo have a track record of choosing to play smaller, more intimate venues when they could easily fill larger spaces. Founded by keyboardist Sanae Yamada and former Wooden Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson, their recent appearances in the city have been atmospheric affairs at Band On The Wall and The White Hotel. Returning to Manchester again, the pair are teaming up with local visual projection artist Emmanuel Biard for the culminating performance of the Samarbeta’s fourteenth artist residency at Islington Mill. Titled Stardust Highway: Experiments in Stoner Disco, the piece will use live music and video art to explore ideas of “time, ritual, and the human desire to transcend material reality”. Speaking on the upcoming show, the band commented: “Through the residency, we’re hoping to deepen that artistic relationship by collaborating on a specific conceptual framework for a live show to reflect and interact with the ideas at work on our upcoming album.” This show has now moved to Niamos.
