It’s the sort of show the American’s call a “twofer”: as if the return of the great Gruff Rhys isn’t excitement enough, he’s bringing sublime singer songwriter Bill Ryder-Jones on the road with him too. The tour celebrates Gruff’s seventh solo album Seeking New Gods which, like the best of his writing, is rooted in a concept and a surprising story – this time, the volcanic Mount Paektu has motivated his rumination on people and places and the passage of time. Lead single Lone Your Loneliness certainly confirms Gruff’s currently on fire when it comes to picking his musical buddies – ace mixer/producer Mario C. bringing the same sense of thumping fun to this record as he brought to Super Furry Animals’ Phantom Power.
