The Royal Exchange Theatre play host to one of the UK’s most innovative musicians this spring, as percussionist, producer and composer Talvin Singh visits for a rare live appearance in the city. The multi-talented artist has found acclaim for his unique marriage of traditional and contemporary music, blending classical Indian sensibilities with original soundscapes and cutting edge electronica. His 1999 debut OK won the Mercury Music Prize; an excellent start to a career which has also seen him awarded the South Bank Prize for popular music, as well an OBE for Services to Music in 2015. Singh’s work and influence also encompasses visual arts, dance and film, which has seen him collaborate with artists such as Sun Ra, the late Ustad Sultan Khan, Terry Riley, John Martyn and Yoko Ono. Tickets for his appearance at the Royal Exchange Theatre start at £22, with support from musician, composer and sound artist Jason Singh.
