Expect a cascade of spiritual punk-funk and a dose of soulful funk at Soup Kitchen this month with a visit from local jazz outfit Skeltr. Playing the basement venue on Thursday 8 November, the forward-thinking, energetic duo are now favourite of the jazz festival circuit, recently playing Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo, Reykjavik Jazz Festival and London Jazz Fest. Fans can look forward to roaring sax lines from Sam Healey, spiralling above meticulous electronics and sampling from Craig Hanson, manipulated live and described by Manchester Jazz Festival as “a striking, expansive sound with a buzzing energy at its core”. Already making waves on the jazz scene in their first year of existence, their eponymous debut album has quickly found praise from Jazz FM and Giles Peterson. Support comes from local producer DJ Glue70.
