A new, charity-minded inner-city music festival is taking place this March in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Entitled You Are Not Alone (or YANA for short), the festival host an array of diverse local talent spread across Northern Quarter venues such as Night & Day Café and Jimmy’s. Kicking off on Saturday 30 March, attendees can look forward to the indie-folk charm of singer-songwriter Liam Frost, described by Elbow’s Guy Garvey as “the UK’s answer to Bright Eyes”, as well as an acoustic set from cult Factory favourites Space Monkeys. Eclectic young five-piece Y.O.U.N.G. are also on the bill along with raucous three-piece, Déjà Vega and neo-psych pop outfit Heavy On The Magic. Launched by former Sound Control promoter Ben Taylor, profits from YANA Festival will go to Manchester Mind. The independent local charity has been supporting mental health needs for the city since 1989 under the name HARP, before becoming affiliated with national service Mind to become one of 137 local associations across the country.
Sat 30 Mar, YANA Festival, various Northern Quarter venues, 4pm, £10, www.skiddle.com
