Vistors can now get a rare glimpse inside one of Manchester’s most iconic buildings, with the launch of a series of behind-the-scenes tours of the Town Hall starting again on Sun 12 Nov, with further events running every other Sunday until January when the building closes for restorative works. Led by Manchester’s Blue and Green Badge Guides, the visits will take you through the parts of this Grade I-listed building that are not normally seen on the regular historical tours. Over the course of 75 minutes, attendees will see highlights such as the cobbled courtyard, the portcullis, and cabinets displaying gifts given to the city over the years, as well as some seldom-seen areas, such the Lord Mayor’s Steps and the Porter’s Cubby Hole. You will also get to experience the more dilapidated areas, which are currently being improved as part of a major refurbishment project. Visitors should meet at the reception desk near the Lloyd Street entrance.

Starting Sun 22 Jan, Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester, M2 5DB. Tel: 07905 110197, 9.30am; 11am; 1pm and 2.30pm, £3.25, www.eventbrite.co.uk
